Dark Side of Tanning Campaign

There's nothing healthy about a tan. Tanning is skin cells in trauma, trying to protect themselves from damage. Just one damaged cell can start a melanoma growing.

Concerning results of a 2008 survey of South Australian adolescents showed they continue to show very little concern for sun protection. There has been a general decline over time in the proportion of adolescents protecting their skin. 68% of adolescents reported they liked having some degree of tan and approximately three quarters had been sunburnt at least once over the previous summer.

The Dark Side of Tanning campaign has been developed to challenge the belief that a tan is healthy and increase awareness of the severity of melanoma. It has been designed to show the possible consequence of tanning and to encourage young people, in particular, to protect their skin.
